Weekly Predictor: Will REDBLACKS, Eskimos continue winning?

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — All four road teams picked up wins in Week 4 and Pick ‘Em players and CFL.ca’s Jamie Nye ended the week with a 2-2 record. This week, keeping the road warriors in mind, Nye looks to get back on track with his Weekly Predictor.

CFL Pick ‘Em returns with more up for grabs than ever before because this season more than $130,000 in combined cash and prizes up for grabs.*

Pick 30 in a row, win $30,000; pick 40, win $40,000; think you can pick 50 straight? You’re looking at $50,000. *View rules regarding streaks and prizing.

Here’s Jamie Nye with his picks for Week 5:

CALGARY @ WINNIPEG

Patrick Doyle (CFL.ca)

Bo Levi Mitchell will hope to lead his team to a win after their bye week in Week 4 (CFL.ca)

The Stampeders have usually been pretty strong coming off a bye week and after a hot/cold start to the season, I expect Bo Levi Mitchell to start trending toward being a fantasy stud quarterback again. The entire offence is trying to figure out who is ready to become the big play maker outside of Marquay McDaniel. Joe West’s injury isn’t going to help any if he can’t play.

Winnipeg needs Drew Willy to start to solidify himself as a number one quarterback or there will be some questions coming if the team slides to a 1-4 start to the season. I’m having a hard time picking Winnipeg to beat the perennial powerhouse.

OTTAWA @ SASKATCHEWAN

Patrick Doyle (CFL.ca)

Trevor Harris hopes to help keep the REDBLACKS undefeated when they take on the Riders (CFL.ca)

The REDBLACKS have scored the most points in the league. The Riders have given up the most points. The Riders will be seeing Mitchell Gale start his first ever game at quarterback, while Trevor Harris has had three of four weeks on the CFL’s Top Performers list.

On any given Friday, upsets can happen but I’m going with the safe pick here.

HAMILTON @ EDMONTON

Jason Halstead (CFL.ca)

Can Adarius Bowman continue his offensive success this week against a tough Tiger-Cat defence? (CFL.ca)

I think it’s safe to say this has the makings of the game of the week. The Tiger-Cats are coming off a dominating win in Montreal. The Eskimos are coming off back to back wins following a bye week.

Both teams defences, who were struggling, had decent games last week as well to show signs of promise, but not only do I think the difference in this one will be where the game is played but Mike Reilly is asserting himself as a M.O.P. candidate. Adarius Bowman is in the conversation as well.

MONTREAL @ TORONTO

Adam Gagnon (CFL.ca)

Ricky Ray and co. will look to win their first game at home on Monday against the Alouettes (CFL.ca)

This is hard one to pick so far away from kick-off but it’s also hard because I’m not sure what to expect after the Alouettes were embarrassed in Week 4. The Alouettes are better than what they showed against the Tiger-Cats and so far home field advantage hasn’t help the Argonauts at BMO Field.

I think the Argonauts will use their 10 days of prep with a long week to get that offence moving. The defence has to find their momentum that they had carried over from the road trip but won’t be taking on the dynamic offence they just faced against Ottawa.

I’m tempted to pull the surprise and pick the Alouettes here but I’m going to side with a historic win at BMO for the Argos.

CFL on DraftKings

With CFL now on DraftKings, Nye checks in with his weekly fantasy roster. Set your lineup today!

It’s pretty easy to go with Trevor Harris and Chris Williams against a Riders defence that has been susceptible to the big play over the last two games. They’ve been hot and should continue their strong play in Regina.

With Mitchell Gale starting for the Riders, it’s always safe to go with the defence against a first time starter.

John White is a good bet to eat up some yards against the Tiger-Cats as Hamilton heads out West.

Then it’s down to trying to find the budget players who could make a good impact. Jace Davis and Ricky Collins are two newer faces to the league who could surprise and all of a sudden be a major factor in winning you some $$. A Rider receiver could be of interest if you think they’ll fall behind and need to pass a tonne in the second half. Bagg, Chiles are also options there.

Bakari Grant is a risky play but there is some room to manoeuvre there. If Kamar Jorden is listed above him, go there, if not Grant seems motivated to keep his roster spot and follow up on a five catch, near 90 yard performance last week. Kenny Shaw could be a decent play as the value is there.
