Weekly Predictor: Will the Blue Bombers make it eight straight?

TORONTO — The Tiger-Cats’ last second win over the Alouettes; the Blue Bombers grabbing their seventh straight victory; the Stampeders extending their winning streak to nine and the Riders winning their second game of the season led to CFL.ca’s Jamie Nye to a 2-2 record in Week 13.

This week Nye looks to improve his record in his Weekly Predictor.

Can Dan LeFevour lead the Argos to victory in the nation’s capital? (CFL.ca)

Why not start the back third of the season with a game with huge playoff implications. Friday night is going to be a fun one in the Nation’s capital with a lot on the line with the fight for first alive in the East and the crossover threat of missing the playoffs.

Both teams are also coming off big losses from last week, for Dan LeFevour he’ll need to get back in the win column or the pull toward Drew Willy after his trade is going to be a hard one for Scott Milanovich to ignore, although it likely is already.

Trevor Harris has been decent with a tick below the 300-yard passing range but that’s 100-yards less than what we saw he and his receiver corps chew up per game earlier this season.

Problem with predicting this game is these have been two terribly inconsistent teams over the last month and it’s the Forrest Gump ‘you never know what your gunna get’ out this box of chocolates feel.

BC @ EDMONTON

Jonathon Jennings looks to continue his team’s success with a win in Edmonton (CFL.ca)

The Edmonton Eskimos have to be kicking themselves after struggling to keep ground in the West Division with their loss in Saskatchewan. Now, this is pretty well their last chance to even think about hosting a playoff game.

The BC Lions are added to their arsenal by signing former Tiger-Cats Terrell Sinkfield, adding more playmakers to a long list of them on BC’s offence.

We’ll see if the rest pays off for the Lions who will play their third game in 24 days. That’s a lot of rest, while the Eskimos have a short week. Teams have shown on short rest they can still pile up points like the Alouettes and Argonauts have been able to do this season.

WINNIPEG @ CALGARY

Can the Stamps snap the Winnipeg Blue Bombers winning streak, while extending their own, this week? (The Canadian Press)

The game of the week is the Stampeders and the Bombers. One streak must end as the Stampeders are riding an 11 game unbeaten streak and the Bombers are on a seven game winning streak.

I’m going to bring up strength of schedule here as the Stampeders have been beating teams on the upper end of the standings, while the Bombers are piling up wins of late against teams they should beat. However, winning is winning and that shouldn’t take away from an excellent match-up, which definitely could preview a West Final match-up and could have a similar intensity.

The Bombers are going to hang in there, but I see a much more complete team in the Stampeders.

HAMILTON @ SASKATCHEWAN

Have the Roughriders turned things around in Riderville? (Johany Jutras/CFL.ca)

Oh boy did Rider Nation need that sense of relief with a victory last weekend. Something to feel good about with the playoffs so far in the distance it’s now just a spec on the horizon. But it was a win and this team has looked like it’s been gaining confidence in the last few weeks and finally got the pay off.

The Tiger-Cats are bumped up coming into Saskatchewan and need a win to stay alone at the top of the East Division standings. The last time out the Tiger-Cats beat Saskatchewan by 45. That was a month ago in Hamilton.

These two teams are much different now and the weather could be a cold, windy, rainy night where the run game may be of necessity. As bad as the run game has been in Saskatchewan this season, Curtis Steele’s return gave it a big boost and Darian Durant showed his ability to get the job done with his legs.

The only team worse than Saskatchewan at running the ball are the Tiger-Cats, who may be without CJ Gable. Call me crazy….

The Saskatchewan Roughriders offence hasn’t been that great over the last couple of weeks so you can find some good value as they looked like an improving team coming into a game against the Tiger-Cats.

Curtis Steele had over 100-yards of offence and if it’s rainy and windy like the forecast says it might, you can bet Steele will be a big part of the offence again running and in the pass game.

Armanti Edwards rewarded those who invested last week and is a player that in the short passing game that is used in Saskatchewan can make up yards quick with his speed and agility. Another week working with Darian Durant could pay off with another home game.

The REDBLACKS defence should be able to pounce on the Argonauts as Dan LeFevour has had the propensity of turning over the ball with four interceptions in the two games he’s played and with that home town crowd, could make things difficult on the Argos.

As for Jon Jennings, Jeremiah Johnson, Chris Williams and Derel Walker. They’ve been pretty automatic and go along with decent matchups this week. Although, Bo Levi Mitchell and Stampeder receivers will be popular this week with the Bombers defence ranking last in passing defence.
