Stampeders appoint executive team for 2007

CALGARY (CFL.ca wire) — The Calgary Stampeder Football Club ownership group has appointed John Forzani, Doug Mitchell and Bob Viccars to serve on the management executive committee with Forzani being appointed chairman and Mitchell being appointed governor.

The club’s ownership group also announced that they have unanimously appointed minority owner Ted Hellard as managing partner and president of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club through the 2009 season.

“We are pleased with the unanimous support and formalization of this appointment of Ted as the Club’s Managing Partner and President,” said Forzani. “Ted has done an exceptional job and has set in motion a new direction for the Calgary Stampeder Football Club.”

The 2007 season will see senior vice president of football operations and head coach Tom Higgins and general manager Jim Barker working closely with respect to football and player personnel decisions.

“We are pleased to have Tom and Jim represent the face of football within the Stampeder organization,” said Hellard. “We have a strong belief that they will be able to lead our football team to the level that everyone associated with the Calgary Stampeder Football Club strives to achieve.”

Denny Creehan, associate head coach and defensive coordinator, will also remain with the Stampeders through the 2008 season.

“Having our defensive staff back, under Denny’s leadership, is a huge bonus to the organization,” said Higgins. “In 2007 we will certainly benefit from an experienced coaching staff.”

The Stampeders have also re-signed defensive assistant coaches, Tim Burke and Casey Creehan to 2007 contracts.

“Two years in a row we tore our defence apart in the middle of the season and rebuilt it; that would have been impossible without great teachers like Tim and Casey,” said Creehan. “I look forward to working with these two coaches for years to come.”

The Stampeders also announced that special team coordinator Craig Dickenson has agreed to a contract extension.

“We had an outstanding year on Special Teams and it all started with the coach,” said Higgins. “Craig did an exceptional job teaching and coaching the special teams unit. I am proud to have him as a valued member of our coaching staff.”
