The Hamilton Tiger-Cats hired Mike Gibson as their offensive co-ordinator Wednesday.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to add Mike to our coaching staff,” head coach Marcel Bellefeuille said in a statement. “Mike brings a wide range of experience and past success to the organization.

“The quality of his character coupled with his expertise will be a great compliment to the Tiger-Cats.”

Gibson takes over from Bellefeuille, who began last season as Hamilton’s offensive co-ordinator. He assumed the head coach’s job during the ’08 season when Charlie Taaffe was fired.

Gibson spent the past two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as their assistant head coach and offensive line coach. Prior to that, Gibson spent two seasons as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive co-ordinator (2005-’06).

He also served as Winnipeg’s offensive line coach in 2001, helping the club post 14-4 record and an appearance in the Grey Cup final.

Gibson has also spent time in the NCAA with such schools as Rutgers, Colgate, Temple, Rice, Boston University and Cornell. Gibson also served as a guest coach with the B.C. Lions in 1995.
