WINNIPEG — Matt O’Meara, a veteran Canadian offensive lineman, has re-signed with the Blue Bombers today.
As per team policy, details of the agreement are not disclosed.
O’Meara (6-5, 285, McMaster ’04, DOB: Aug. 7, 1982 in Milton, ON) is very steady and reliable and provides great depth to the offensive line.
Starting six games last season, O’Meara proved to be a valuable asset when other offensive linemen went down due to injury.
O’Meara played both guard positions last year, when starters Kyle Koch and Brendon LaBatte were unable to play. The line didn’t seem to miss a beat, as the Blue Bombers’ front five were second in the CFL in sacks allowed with 29.
“Matt is a great example of how important depth is on the offensive line. Last year he stepped in when needed, and did an admirable job,” said head coach Mike Kelly.
The former OUA first-team all-star at McMaster University enters his fifth year in the league, and third with the Winnipeg Football Club. He was originally acquired from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2007 for a fifth round draft pick in the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft.
