Stein: I’m thankful for…

Jaime Stein

I woke up on Sunday morning dreaming of CFL football and how many exciting moments we have been treated to this season by the amazing men who lay it all on the line week after week. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I thought I would share what I’m thankful for in the CFL:

I’m thankful for coaches like Jim Barker who prove ‘Our balls are bigger’ each time the Argonauts’ special teams unit runs an astonishing trick play.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to watch Andy Fantuz dominate CFL defences the same way he used to light up the OUA with the Western Mustangs.

I’m thankful for players like Cory Boyd and Chad Owens who are worth the price of admission on any given night.

I’m thankful for a league of players with big hearts who spend countless hours in the community helping those who are less fortunate.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to go to Grey Cup each year, the best party you will ever attend.

I’m thankful for receivers like S.J. Green who bring the ‘wow factor’ on every catch.

I’m thankful for the sea of green in Regina which is one of the most intense places you will ever watch a football game, let alone any live sporting event.

I’m thankful for players like Ben Cahoon who exude class.

I’m thankful for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive line which makes me never want to play quarterback.

I’m thankful for Labour Day and the intense rivalries that it creates.

I’m thankful for the larger field and unlimited offensive motion – two hallmarks of OUR game that make it so exciting.

I’m thankful for the CFL’s history. Soon to be 100 Grey Cups.

I’m thankful for stadiums like Empire and Molson where fans are treated to magnificent backdrops in addition to great football.

I’m thankful for quarterbacks like Ricky Ray, Henry Burris and Anthony Calvillo who have provided consistent entertainment in a league that destroys QBs.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to interact with fans across this vast land on CFL.ca, Facebook and Twitter where it is proven why this really is OUR league.

And finally, I’m thankful for the rouge because it is uniquely Canadian just like Thanksgiving in October.

These are just some of the things that I’m thankful for this weekend. What about you? Leave your thanks in the comments below to discuss what CFL football and thanksgiving mean to you.
