TORONTO — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired one of the league’s premier pass rushers, completing a trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for Alex Hall in exchange for non-import offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld and a 2015 fourth round draft pick.
Hall is in his second season in the Canadian Football League after signing with the Blue Bombers in April, 2012. This season, the 28-year-old has recorded 31 defensive tackles in 13 regular season games and is currently the league leader in quarterback sacks with 15.
Last season the Glenarden, MD native was named an East Division All-Star after registering 31 defensive tackles and nine quarterback sacks.
Hall was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the seventh round (231st overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft after playing at St. Augustine’s University. He went on to play 32 career regular season games before joining the CFL.
“Alex has been a great player for us over the past two seasons, however, we feel this move will be positive for the long term betterment of the football team. We thank Alex for his tireless efforts and professionalism with us and wish him the best moving forward,” said Acting General Manager, Kyle Walters. “In Patrick, we are receiving a Canadian offensive tackle, who has experience in our league and who we feel can upgrade our offensive line.”
Neufeld started in 13 of 17 regular season games played and the West Semi-Final in 2012 for the Riders. In 2011, he dressed in 17 games for the Riders as a back-up offensive lineman, while also playing special teams. He was originally drafted in the 5th round of the 2010 CFL Draft by Saskatchewan.
