OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced today that quarterback Jesse Mills of the Carleton Ravens and quarterback Derek Wendel of the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees have been added to the team’s first-ever training camp line-up as non-roster invitees.

Both players will work out with the REDBLACKS until the team travels to Regina for the first exhibition game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on June 13.

“It’s important for our organization to give back to the community and we wanted to extend this invitation as a gesture of goodwill to our city’s university football partners at Carleton and the University of Ottawa,” said REDBLACKS’ GM Marcel Desjardins.

“It’s our hope that these players acquire valuable experience and take that experience to the playing field during the 2014 CIS season.”

The 2013 season saw Mills complete 90 of 163 passes for 1,211 yards and five touchdowns. He also threw eight interceptions and was sacked 14 times.

Wendel, meanwhile, threw just 49 passes during the 2013 season, completing 29 of them for 448 yards and four touchdowns.

The Gee Gee pivot also tossed two interceptions and was sacked three times.
