Riders sign K O’Neill; extend DB Turenne

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today national kicker Hugh O’Neil has signed with the team and international defensive back Woodny Turenne has signed an extension. As per club policy, details of the contracts were not released.

O’Neill (6’2 – 185) joins the Riders for his fifth CFL season after originally being selected in the 2nd round (11th overall) by the BC Lions in the 2011 Canadian Draft. He remained with the Lions for over two seasons before signing with the Edmonton Eskimos in August, 2013.

Last season, the Edmonton native played nine regular season games for the Eskimos, connecting on 20 of 26 field goals (76.9%) and added 61 punts for 2,710 yards for a 44.4 yard average.

For his career, the 25-year-old has made 35 of 47 field goal attempts (74.5%) including a 47 yard long while adding 82 punts for 3,555 yards (43.3 average) including a 70 yard long in 23 regular season games.

Turenne (6’0 – 190) will return for his fifth CFL season and fourth with the Riders. The Florida native originally signed with the Green and White in July, 2012 after spending the 2011 season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Last season, the 27-year-old played eight regular season games, registering nine defensive tackles, three special teams tackles and one interception.

Turenne was eligible to become a free agent on February 10th.
