Ticats add former Argo Berry to practice roster

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Wednesday that the football club has signed international free agent defensive back Aaron Berry to a practice roster agreement.

The 28-year-old was released by the Argos ahead of Saturday’s 10 p.m. roster deadline.

Berry appeared in 13 games with 12 starts for the Toronto Argonauts in 2016, posting 38 defensive tackles and one special teams tackle. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Harrisburg, Penn. played 20 games in the National Football League over four seasons with the Detroit Lions (2010-11), New York Jets (2012) and Cleveland Browns (2014), registering 37 combined tackles, 12 passes defended and one interception.

In 47 games over four seasons (2006-09) at the University of Pittsburgh, Berry accumulated 93 tackles (70 solo, 23 assisted), five tackles for loss, six interceptions, one blocked kick and 27 pass breakups. In his senior season, Berry earned second-team All-Big East honours after collecting 31 tackles (25 solo, six assisted), 10 pass breakups and one interception.
