Bombers place Dressler on 6-game

The Canadian Press

OTTAWA — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without their leading receiver for the foreseeable future after Weston Dressler was placed on the six-game injured list.

Dressler, 32, had a team-high 342 yards this season before exiting Winnipeg’s Week 6 win over Montreal with an injury. While the injury isn’t believed to be season-ending, Dressler’s absence leaves a hole in the Bombers’ receiving corps.

A veteran of 10 CFL seasons, Dressler signed with Winnipeg as a free agent in 2016. He was the team’s top receiver in his first year in Winnipeg, hauling in 80 passes for 1,003 yards and two touchdowns while helping the Bombers to their first playoff berth since 2011.

Taking Dressler’s place on Friday night in Winnipeg will be Ryan Lankford, a speedy 6-foot receiver who doubles as a returner. Lankford hauled in 53 yards and a touchdown on seven catches in place of Dressler last game.

While the Bombers will be without one of the league’s most reliable targets, they will receive a boost with the return of SAM linebacker Maurice Leggett.

Winnipeg is in Ottawa on Friday night for a Week 7 clash with the REDBLACKS at TD Place.
