TORONTO — This week’s Marquee Matchup features the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders as the two battle it out in the Banjo Bowl.
Last week during the Labour Day Classic, the Saskatchewan Roughriders snapped the Bombers five-game winning streak. Kevin Glenn was the hero in that one – tossing for 386 yards and three touchdowns. He also spread the wealth over his receiving corps as three different pass-catchers – Duron Carter, Naaman Roosevelt and Bakari Grant – went over 100 yards on the night.
In this week’s rematch, Matt Nichols and co. will be looking for revenge on their West Division rivals.
Andrew Harris was limited to just nine carries for 29 yards on the ground last week as the Riders pass-rushers didn’t allow Winnipeg’s ground game to rumble. Harris did, however, score a major through the air while also collecting 72 yards on 10 catches. Getting Harris, and the other half of the Bombers running back duo Timothy Flanders, rolling early will be a key for the Bombers.
All the Roughriders have to do this week is continue to play the way they have for the last three weeks – although that’s easier said than done.
Winnipeg is just three points behind the Stampeders for first in the West while the Riders are four behind Edmonton for third. A win for both teams is important as we head down the stretch of the second half of the season.
