REDBLACKS trade Patrick Lavoie back to Montreal for J.C. Beaulieu

OTTAWA – The Montreal Alouettes have re-acquired a 2012 draft pick of theirs, executing a trade with the Ottawa REDBLACKS for national fullback Patrick Lavoie.

Ottawa receives a national fullback of their own in return in J.C. Beaulieu.

Lavoie returns to the Alouettes with whom he played his first two CFL seasons after the team drafted him in the second round (11th overall) in the 2012 CFL Draft. The former member of Université Laval’s Rouge & Or helped the REDBLACKS win their first Grey Cup in 2016 in addition to being part of the group that allowed Ottawa to end its second season in the CFL at the Grey Cup in 2015.

“We are very happy to bring Patrick back home, where it all started for him. Since he arrived in the CFL, he has been a consistent and versatile player. He will fit very well in our new offensive system,” Alouettes General Manager Kavis Reed said in a statement. “We would like to thank Jean-Christophe for being so dedicated to the Alouettes on the field as much as in the community. We wish him all the best.”

Beaulieu has played four CFL seasons, all with the Alouettes. Last season, the 27-year-old native of Trois-Rivieres rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown while suiting up for 10 games with the Alouettes.

“Pat has been an integral part of the REDBLACKS from Day 1 and our franchise would not have accomplished as much as we have if not for his contributions. We wish him the best in Montreal,” said REDBLACKS General Manager Marcel Desjardins. “We are also excited to acquire J.C. Beaulieu and look forward to seeing him on the field as a member of the REDBLACKS.”
