OL Jones signs one-day contract with Esks; announces retirement

EDMONTON — Three-time Grey Cup champion offensive lineman Andrew Jones has signed a one-day contract with Edmonton to retire from professional football as a member of the Green and Gold, the team announced on Tuesday.

“The reason I chose to retire an Eskimo is because Edmonton has felt like home since day one,” says Jones. “The hard-working nature of Edmontonions is inspiring, and Edmonton is where I’m looking forward to calling home for a very long time.”

Jones joined Edmonton in 2014 where he spent two seasons with the club appearing in 24 games, including the 2015 Grey Cup game when the Eskimos won their 14th championship.

He was also a member of the 2011 BC Lions championship team and the 2012 Toronto Argonauts championship team.

Originally selected in fourth round (32rd overall) in the 2007 CFL Draft by the BC Lions, the McMaster alum spent 11 seasons in CFL appearing in 102 career games with the BC Lions (2007-11, 2017), Toronto Argonauts (2012-13), Edmonton Eskimos (2014-15), and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2016).
