Ridiculous Brescacin Catch Makes Waves

CALGARY — There are highlight-reel catches, and then there is what Juwan Brescacin did in Calgary on Saturday night.

The sequence started poorly for the Stampeders; quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell had to clear out of the pocket with a pair of Ticat defensive linemen chasing him down, then launched a 44-yard pass into a one-on-one situation.

Roughly three seconds of hang time later, Brescacin and Hamilton defensive back Richard Leonard went up for it.

Leonard swiped at it and missed; Brescacin stuck up his right hand and made the catch heard ’round the internet.

INCREDIBLE one-handed catch 😱

Let’s just…let’s just watch that again.

There are so many incredible things about the catch; Brescacin’s focus as Leonard’s arm shoots into his field of vision, the fact he literally catches a full-speed pass behind his body (with one hand!). Nuts.

The catch naturally drew comparisons to New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who has gained notoriety in recent years for his one-handed feats.

Brescacin’s incredible snag was part of a decent offensive day for the Stampeders, who racked up 429 yards of offence en route to a 28-14 win over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

In addition to the 25-year-old Mississauga, Ont. native, six other Stampeders caught a pass in the win. The third-year pro now has 25 career receptions, and appears poised for his first professional touchdown in 2018 as part of a Calgary offence that will spread the ball around.

Kamar Jorden, who hauled in a fourth-quarter touchdown to secure the victory, paced all Stamps receivers with 77 yards.

Head coach Dave Dickenson’s team will now travel to the 6ix for a Grey Cup rematch against the Toronto Argonauts next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
