WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have their field general back under centre on Saturday.

A day after Nichols was pulled from the 6-game injured list and returned to practice, the Bombers announced Thursday that he will be their starting quarterback when they take on the BC Lions in Week 4 at Investors Group Field.

The news actually comes the day before Nichols reaches the early end of the 4-6 week timeline given to him after suffering the apparent knee injury in practice back on June 6.

On Wednesday, the idea of Nichols returning become closer to reality when the veteran shared first-team reps with rookie Chris Streveler.

“It’s just exciting to get your brother back out there, man,” said slotback Adarius Bowman. “Its like having one of your troops missing for a while and then he’s back. It puts an extra boost in our whole offence.”

Streveler held the fort down in Nichols’ absence, the rookie winning one of his three starts and turning heads all the meanwhile. But the team will be happy to have its starter back as it tries to climb the crowded West Division standings.
