Week 6 Fantasy Locks: Powell leads this week’s must-picks

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — The lock of the year in CFL Fantasy might just be William Powell in Week 6.

The Ottawa REDBLACKS’ running back was entirely shut down last week against Calgary, but is considered a can’t-miss play going into this week’s contest with the BC Lions.

Set your lineup in TSN CFL Fantasy today!

Powell goes from facing the CFL’s most staunch run defence to facing the worst, with the Lions giving up 152 rushing yards per game so far this season. What’s more, the Lions have learned they’ll be without Solomon Elimimian for the foreseeable future following a wrist injury.

“I think he’s having a huge game against the BC Lions, over 100 yards and a touchdown,” said Pat Steinberg. “They are the worst rushing defence in the CFL and Powell is going to thrash that defence. Solomon Elimimian will not play in Week 6, so their most important player is subtracted from a team that is already getting hammered on the ground. I think William Powell has a huge game, no questions asked.”

The REDBLACKS’ running back checks in at $8,240, making him the third most expensive option in the game this week behind Andrew Harris ($9,055) and James Wilder Jr. ($8,634).

Outside of last week’s letdown against Calgary, which saw him record just 2.3 points, Powell has consistently racked up yards and carries as a focal point in Ottawa’s offence.

While Steinberg zeroes in on Powell, Jeff Krever has a different Ottawa REDBLACK in mind in Greg Ellingson.

The REDBLACKS’ top receiver is coming off back-to-back sub-par games from a Fantasy standpoint, but remains one of the most targeted receivers in the CFL and draws a matchup against a BC defence that is allowing 8.1 yards per completion.

For Krever, just like S.J. Green a week ago, it’s only a matter of time before Ellingson breaks out.

“Dominant, dominant receiver and love the matchup he’s got with the Lions,” said Krever. “I think Trevor Harris looks to him early and often, and not only will he get a lot of targets but I see him breaking one long one and finding the end zone.”

While Jeff and Pat are banking on a REDBLACKS rebound, Hannah Nordman is going with what she knows in Stampeders running back Don Jackson. At $5,697, Jackson could put up elite numbers against a struggling Alouette run defence while providing cap flexibility throughout your lineup.

“He’s been super consistent, about as consistent as a player can be and I think that’s just his floor,” said Nordman. “Don Jackson in my lineup, pretty good value there.”

In addition to weekly locks, the podcast crew also submits weekly bargain picks. Both locks and bargain picks are summarized below.
