Report: Manziel handling first-team reps

Montreal Alouettes

MONTREAL – According to Didier Orméjuste of RDS, Johnny Manziel was seen practising with the Montreal Alouettes’ starting offence on Monday.

Manziel did not see any playing time in his first game as a member of the Als in Montreal’s 44-23 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos in Week 7.

The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback has yet to see any playing time since his pre-season action when he was still a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Adding veteran leadership in a struggling offensive unit, Adarius Bowman practised with the team for the first time since joining the Als since being traded from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Bowman, an 11-year vet, has amassed a total of 9,119 receiving yards on 622 receptions as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Edmonton Eskimos.

Newly acquired T.J. Heath hasn’t yet arrived in Montreal following Sunday’s trade between the Alouettes and Toronto Argonauts, which saw Heath dealt in exchange for offensive lineman Ryan Bomben.

Landon Rice, who was acquired in the same trade that sent Manziel to the Alouettes, was practising at the right guard position, previously filled by Bomben.

Rice was listed as a strong-side tackle in Week 7’s matchup against Edmonton, backing up rookie lineman Na’ty Rodgers.
