Sights, Sounds and Social: Week 9

Winnipeg Blue Bombers photo

Week 9 had it all: An upset on the Pacific coast, a memorable finish in front of incredible fans in Winnipeg and a strong start to #DiversityIsStrength in Ottawa.

Let’s take a look at how things unfolded on social media.

Thursday | BC 31, Edmonton 23

The Lions stunned the rest of the league with an eight-point win over the visiting Eskimos on Thursday.

BC balled out, and their content team provided us with some inside access.

Oh and Chad Brownlee? He rocked the #TNF halftime performance.

Also: The Lions put out an awful(ly good) Star Wars parody ft. quarterback Travis Lulay and his good friend β€” and Esks QB β€” Mike Reilly.

Friday | Winnipeg 29, Hamilton 23

The Ticats came out of the gate flying and took an early lead, but the Bombers responded in front of a raucous home crowd and ultimately cruised to victory.

Winnipeg turned the tide with aΒ string of monstrous defensive series.

Then, there was the fact Winnipeg is one of the best places in Canada to watch a football game.

Shoutout to Bombers receiver Nic Demski β€” a former Manitoba Bison β€” for a nod to his alma mater during a touchdown celebration.

Winnipeg linebacker Adam Bighill secured the win with a late-game sack on Jeremiah Masoli, and was one of many Bombers to pay homage to the home crowd following the game.

Saturday | Ottawa 24, Montreal 17

The REDBLACKS pulled off a last-minute win against the feisty Alouettes on Saturday night, and helped kick off the #DiversityIsStrength in the process.

The team honoured Moton Hopkins and Jo-Anne Polak with special t-shirts, and Polak β€” the first female GM in North American pro sports β€” was able to attend.

The team’s social game was on-point throughout the night, whether it was capturing A.C. Leonard’s money signs celebration (see below) or pumping out corny-beyond-belief cartoons (further below).

Then, the Saskatchewan Roughriders broke the Canadian section of the internet with the news they’d released Duron Carter.

And yes, the move was made smack in the middle of the third quarter of Saturday’s Montreal-Ottawa game.

A wild week in the CFL indeed; be sure to check back next Monday for the best from Week 10 social media.
