CFL Fantasy Podcast, Week 11: Revenge of Macbeth

TORONTO — There are several viable options at quarterback in CFL Fantasy this week, all with varying price points.

Some, including Argos sophomore pivot McLeod Bethel-Thompson, can create salary flexibility and thus the potential to surround him with some of the game’s more expensive contracts.

The question in Week 11: Is the Argos’ new quarterback a must-pick player against the struggling Montreal Alouettes’ defence?

“Can we call him the top play? Probably not,” said Pat Steinberg. “The top value play, probably. He’s 2-0 as a starter, he’s looked good. You take a look at this matchup, Montreal’s defence is still a work in progress and a lot of progress needs to be made.

“When you start to weigh in the dollar figure, that’s where McLeod Bethel-Thompson becomes a bit of an intriguing play.”

Steinberg, Jeff Krever and Hannah Nordman weigh in on that and much more in the latest from the CFL Fantasy Podcast:

While Jeremiah Masoli and Mike Reilly set the Fantasy gold standard among quarterbacks, Bethel-Thompson is joined by Antonio Pipkin and Zach Collaros as possible bargain buys this week.

The Alouettes’ defence, it’s worth noting, has allowed 500 or more yards in four consecutive games, becoming the first team in CFL history to do so.

“I’m going to pair him with James Wilder because you can get that pairing and it’s a nice little stack for around $15,000, which is only $1,000 more than Mike Reilly,” said Krever. “You know he likes to throw it to the running back, the Argos are going to be feeding him the football so in that game I’m looking at those two as a stellar play that’s not going to break the bank.

“With the savings, you’ve even got a chance to play a stud running back second to Wilder.”

Nordman, on the other hand, isn’t ready to go all-in on the Argos’ new pivot. Instead, she’s looking to bank on the league’s leading candidate for Most Outstanding Player for a second straight season in Mike Reilly.

“I think we all agree that [Bethel-Thompson] is a good, viable play this week. Last week I played him so I could get some higher-priced guys in my lineup and it didn’t work out for me. I like the guaranteed points and Mike Reilly is as close as you get to a guarantee.”

The podcast crew also talked about the Riders’ exploding offence, the injury to Tyrell Sutton and more of this week’s news, bargain buys and locks of the week in the CFL Fantasy Podcast for Week 11.
