Ticats launch indigenous youth initiative

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats launched the June Jones Youth Movement Program on Wednesday, and it looks great.

The program, which partners with McMaster University’s Indigenous Student Services department, will give Indigenous youth the chance to experience #CFLGameDay at Tim Hortons Field: 30 tickets to each of the team’s six remaining home games, plus bus transportation, field access for warmup and a Hamilton Proud Youth Movement t-shirt.

“In my experience working with youth of American Samoa, football has created great opportunity for many Polynesian young people that they otherwise may not have had,” explained Jones in a team press release. “I wanted to find a way for indigenous youth in the Hamilton area to become exposed to the game of football to primarily create a memorable experience for them, but also to possibly inspire a new generation of football players who may find opportunity through the sport in the future.”

Full details on the program can be found in the team’s press release.

Kudos to Jones, the Ticats and McMaster for coming together to create this opportunity.
