OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS have acquired Canadian linebacker Chris Ackie from the Montreal Alouettes, the club announced on Wednesday.

In exchange, the Alouettes receive Ottawa’s second-round pick in the 2019 CFL Draft.

“Adding a National player with Chris’ skill set makes us a better football team and provides us with ratio flexibility for the remainder of the season,” said REDBLACKS General Manager Marcel Desjardins.

Ackie, who played university football at Wilfrid Laurier, is in his fourth year in the CFL, all spent with Montreal. In 52 career games with the Als, the Cambridge, Ontario native has 109 defensive tackles, 21 special teams tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and a touchdown.

He is currently in the midst of a career year, with 81 defensive tackles in 13 games for Montreal this season, good for fifth in the league. He also has sack, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a touchdown. Ackie had a season-high nine tackles against the REDBLACKS back in July.
