CFL Fantasy Podcast, Week 19: All of a Sutton

TORONTO — Tyrell Sutton and the BC Lions seem like a pretty good match.

The recently-acquired running back broke the 100-yard mark and rushed for two touchdowns on Saturday night, helping the Lions become the first visitor to win at McMahon Stadium this season.

For adventurous Fantasy users, Sutton contributed a game-high 23.4 points — but is it the type of production we should be accustomed to from the former Montreal Alouette?

“I’m buying on Sutton,” said Pat Steinberg. “I loved watching him against the Stampeders at McMahon Stadium. He had an outstanding game. He looked re-energized after being in a playoff race.

“It wasn’t the right situation in Montreal. I think in BC there’s a whole lot more of an opportunity for him to be a focal point.”

More on Sutton, along with the rest of the hot topics in Week 19, can be heard below as Steinberg, Jeff Krever and Hannah Nordman get you ready for the third-last week of the season:

“I’m really excited to see what Sutton can continue to do behind this O-line,” added Krever. “It’s a different unit than what he ran behind in Montreal. Two terrific tackles in Oalfioye and Joel Figueroa and you’ve also got a BC team that needs to run the ball well to win.

“That wasn’t a one-off, we’re going to see a lot more of that,” he added. “If you can run the ball against Calgary, at McMahon, in October, you can run the ball against anybody.”

For Nordman, Sutton’s usage and output in Week 18 answered some critical questions about his viability moving forward.

“It’s just funny thinking back to last week and everything was such a question mark in BC as far as running backs — who are they rolling with, how are they using them,” she said. “That was answered very clearly. The 20-plus carries, getting the ball from five yards and in. And the first loss at home for the Stamps — that’s not an easy thing to do.”

Sutton will try to continue his early success in BC when the Lions take on the Eskimos in a game with significant playoff implications. At $6,580, he could be a popular pick in CFL Fantasy in Week 19 — especially as he continues to get acclimated with his new team.

The podcast trio also discussed the battle for first in the East, a favourable matchup for Johnny Manziel, and the possible return of Alex Green in the latest from the CFL Fantasy Podcast.
