Burris finds emotional end zone with call to young fan

Nathaniel Assivero (left) got a call from former REDBLACKS QB Henry Burris (right) this weekend.

The video starts with a kid speaking to somebody on speaker phone.

“Yeah,” he says, grinning from ear to ear.

He is Nathaniel Assivero, an 11-year-old quarterback for the Orleans Bengals in Ottawa, and on the other end of the line is longtime CFL quarterback Henry Burris — Assivero’s “all-time favourite” player.

Burris reached out to Assivero after he competed in the CFL NFL Flag tournament in the nation’s capital this past weekend.

“We’ll have to get together and throw a ball around soon,” says Burris.

“Yeah, okay,” stammers a thrilled Assivero in response.

Kudos to the REDBLACKS for setting this up, and you can be sure the video of Burris and Assivero chucking the ball around is going to make its way around social once it happens.

The CFL team had a strong presence at the tournament itself, with a number of players attending to hang out and mentor the players; quarterback Danny Collins even lent a hand and coached a team.
