Lions sign DL Davon Coleman to contract extension

The Canadian Press

VANCOUVER — The BC Lions announced on Wednesday that interior defensive lineman and 2018 West Division All-Star Davon Coleman has signed a contract extension with the team for the 2019 season.

Coleman, who last week was also selected as the Lions’ nominee for Outstanding Defensive Player, has enjoyed a sensational debut season in Orange and Black notching 57 defensive stops, eight sacks and two interceptions.

“Davon has been everything we felt he could be and more,” said GM Ed Hervey. “Dominant play along the line of scrimmage is often where games are won and lost and Davon has been a very significant part of our defensive success this season. It’s great to have him returning in 2019.”

Acquired in training camp from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the 27-year old native of Cleveland notched a number of impressive performances through 18 regular season games including an eight-tackle, three-sack performance versus his old club in September.

Coleman and his BC Lions teammates continue to prepare for this Sunday’s Eastern Semi-Final versus the Tiger-Cats.
