EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have extended national defensive lineman Kwaku Boateng through the 2020 season, the team announced Friday.

Boateng appeared in and started 16 games this past season for the Green and Gold, recording 26 tackles and nine quarterback sacks. In two seasons, the Wilfrid Laurier alum has appeared in 34 games where he has recorded 48 total tackles, 13 quarterback sacks and one forced fumble.

After falling to the 41st pick in the 2017 CFL Draft, Boateng has easily outperformed his draft position in two seasons with the Esks, emerging as one of the league’s top ratio-breakers at the defensive end position.

The 23-year-old was the 11th-ranked free agent on the CFL.ca top 30 list and the top-ranked national free agent.
