Argos release Plummer, Vaughn and Sears

TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts parted ways with three defensive veterans on Monday, announcing they’ve released linebacker Terrance Plummer and defensive backs Cassius Vaughn and Johnny Sears Jr.

Vaughn, 31, was the hero of the 105th Grey Cup presented by Shaw in 2017 when he returned a fumble 109 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. He suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last August, limiting his season to just eight games.

The Argos part ways with Plummer two weeks after the two sides agreed to a contract extension back on Feb. 8. The 25-year-old out of Central Florida recorded 36 tackles in 20 games over the span of two seasons in the Argos’ linebacking corps.

Sears Jr. is a veteran of nine seasons, including two with the Double Blue. The Argos signed Sears in 2017 after two seasons with the rival Ticats. The 31-year-old was on the roster but didn’t dress in 2018.
