HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be without one of their top targets on Saturday as receiver Luke Tasker will not play against the Toronto Argonauts.
Ticats head coach Orlondo Steinauer confirmed the news to members of the media after practice on Thursday.
Before leaving Hamilton’s home opener after a hard hit in the second quarter of his team’s win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Tasker hauled in four passes for 30 yards.
“It’s not a do or die game,” he said of sitting Tasker out of the Week 2 contest. “We know what Luke brings to the table. If push came to shove, he probably could go but at this point in the year it’s just not worth it for us. Not a heavy level of concern, either from the medical side or from the coaching staff side.”
It will likely be Jaelon Acklin or Marcus Tucker (who took over for Tasker in the second half of Thursday night’s game) that will assume the starting role at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon.
“I don’t expect anybody to replace Luke,” said Steinauer. “I expect whoever to step in to be who they are and do the job to the best of their ability. Bring their set of tools to the game and we’ll let the chips fall where they’re at.”
Kickoff between the Ticats and Argos is slated for 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
