Argos’ MBT to start; Wilder out in Week 8

TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts will have to wait to “Get Wilder” for another week.

Running back James Wilder Jr. will not suit up for the double blue when they take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday night, head coach Corey Chamblin told Argonauts.ca.

“He has the heart and he’s ready and willing to practice, but he’s at the point where I think another week will help him,” Chamblin said.

The 27-year-old was ruled out of the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Edmonton Eskimos with what is believed to be a rib injury. He’ll now sit out until at least Week 10, as the Argos will have a bye following the game against the Bombers.

Wilder has posted 161 rushing yards on 38 carries to go along with 260 yards on 26 receptions. He’s hauled in two touchdown receptions on the year. In his last game against the Calgary Stampeders,

Brandon Burks will take over duties in the backfield for the second consecutive week. He had 42 yards on nine carries against the Esks.

While the Argos will be without arguably their most important offensive weapon, there will be no changes under centre, as Chamblin announced that McLeod Bethel-Thompson will remain the starter for Thursday’s game.

He had a rough outing against Edmonton and was replaced by backup Dakota Prukop, who threw a pair of picks.

Toronto was shutout in its previous contest and will be looking to avoid an 0-7 start to the campaign when they return home to face Winnipeg.
