#TotalPickEm Recap: Week 8

The Canadian Press

Well, we were due for a slump.

And if this #TotalPickEm column was to take a hit, thank goodness it was at least in a week where every Canadian Football League game came down to the final 30-odd seconds.

That was entertaining.

Toronto 28, Winnipeg 27

Well, the 0-6 Argos beat the 5-1 Bombers.

Earned it, too.

Toronto has something to feel good about on their bye — ahem, ruining every pick’em player’s long weekend — while Winnipeg needs to refocus quickly with Calgary coming to town on #TNF.

PICK: Incorrect.

Saskatchewan 24, Hamilton 19

Questions arose about the Ticats’ ability to continue putting up offence in the absence of QB Jeremiah Masoli, and the early answer to those questions was a loss in Regina.

Cody Fajardo’s iconic dive for the pylon was a great moment for the Riders (4-3), who seem to have turned a corner and are now right back in the mix out West with the win over Hamilton (5-2).

PICK: Correct.

Ottawa 30, Montreal 27 (OT)

By all accounts, it was a game Ottawa had no business winning: Dominique Davis and the REDBLACKS offence were anemic, with sub-100 total offensive yardage well into the fourth quarter, yet they found a way.

(Mainly, it was that unbelievable return guy DeVonte Dedmon)

The result? An East Division picture that’s a lot cloudier than it was entering Week 8: Ottawa (3-4) is now a half-game out of a home playoff spot, while Montreal (3-3) could be without QB Vernon Adams Jr. moving forward.

Stay tuned!

PICK: Incorrect.

Calgary 24, Edmonton 18

The Esks had a shot, at the back of the end zone on the final play of the game, but Trevor Harris’ pass fell incomplete out of bounds.

Backup QB Nick Arbuckle and the Stamps just keep finding ways to win games (Larry MacDougal/CFL.ca)

This is the last time we’ll pick against Dave Dickenson, John Hufnagel and the machine that is the Stamps at home for a long time.

P.S. — Those Stamps? The ones with a long injury list, platooning third- and fourth-string running backs? They’re playing for first in the West next week with a 5-2 record.

PICK: Incorrect.

Week 8: 1-3

2019: 25-6 (.806)
