U SPORTS: Carabins edge Laval, Bishop’s returns to .500
Some of last week’s #UniversityBlitz picks seemed relatively straightforward: No. 2 Calgary was going to win at last-place UBC, and No. 1 Laval would roll through No. 3 Montreal in the Quebec marquee matchup.
Right?
Wrong.
The Carabins scored a key fourth-quarter touchdown and put up 23 points — more than they managed against Sherbrooke (18-9) and Concordia (10-3) earlier this year — in a win over the vaunted Rouge et Or.
All of a sudden, that final-week rematch between Montreal and Laval on Oct. 20 looms a lot larger, with the former now holding a 1.5-game lead atop the RSEQ Conference.
Elsewhere, the uOttawa Gee-Gees reversed a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Laurier in the nation’s capital.

Out in the AUS Conference, the Bishop’s Gaiters picked up their second win of the season at home against Mt. Allison — and we’re only in Week 5!

For context, the Gaiters have now matched their win total from 2016-18 (1-7, 1-7, 0-8) and are legitimately in the AUS playoffs mix at 2-2.
One final note: The Carabins’ turnover belt is SICK.
