Alouettes ink national DT Sanelli, two others to two-year deals

MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that National defensive tackle Michael Sanelli, as well as American receivers Fabian Guerra and Malachi Jones have signed two-year deals with the club.

Sanelli (6’2″, 285 lbs.) played three games in his rookie season with the Alouettes, in 2009. The 26-year-old athlete was drafted in the fifth round (39th total) in the 2019 CFL Draft. In 2018, his last season with the Concordia Stingers, the Toronto, ON native made 12 solo tackles, 8.5 tackles for total losses of 58 yards and 5.5 sacks in seven games.

Guerra (5’11”, 200 lbs.)played with the Columbus Destroyers in the Arena Football League, in 2019, where he was named Rookie of the Year. In 2018, he won the National Arena League championship with the Carolina Cobras. He also spent time in the Alliance of American Football with the Memphis Express. The 24-year-old receiver from Miami, FL played college with the Fairmont State University Fighting Falcons where he was voted to the 2015 and 2016 All-MEC Second Team, and to the 2014 All-MEC First Team. He ended his collegiate career with 233 catches, 2,805 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns in 30 games. The receptions were a Fairmont State record, while the yards and touchdowns ranked second and third in school history, respectively.

Jones (6’3″, 215 lbs.) spent time in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. In 2019, he played in the Arena Football League where he won the ArenaBowl with the Albany Empire and was named Offensive Player of the Year and Wide Receiver of the Year. He was also named on the First Team All-Arena. In 2018, he also collected honours as he was named AFL Rookie of the year, Wide Receiver of the Year and named on the First-Team All-Arena. The Lawrenceville, GA native played four years in college for the Appalachian State University Mountaineers. The 25-year-old receiver caught 124 balls and earned 1,711 yards with eight touchdowns in 49 games.
