Brandon’s Blitz Picks: Who’ll lead the REDBLACKS in yards?

Minas Panagiotakis/CFL.ca

Halloween came early for Blitz Picks as a season-worst 2-8 record in Week 20 was more than enough to horrify the masses while dropping our overall record to 116-84. Fortunately, the regular season finale offers a chance for redemption.

1)Will Winnipeg’s Brady Oliveira (1,498 yards) break the 1,500-yard mark against Calgary on Friday?

Yes. It’s just two yards, so even if Oliveira ($13,800) doesn’t get a full workload, he’ll become the first back to reach the 1,500-yard barrier since Hall of Famer Jon Cornish ran for 1,813 yards for the Stampeders in 2013.

2)Will Calgary force more or less than 1.5 turnovers this week against Winnipeg?

Less. Expect the Blue Bombers to play things close to the vest in the regular season finale. Even with the prospect of reserves playing the bulk of the contest, Winnipeg’s offence should be careful when it comes to preserving the ball.

3)Will Winnipeg record more than 3.5 sacks against Calgary on Friday?

No. The Stampeders passing game has struggled this season, but they have done an exceptional job of pass protection as they’ve allowed just 32 sacks, second fewest in the league.

4)How many quarterbacks will play for Hamilton on Saturday in Montreal? One? Two? Three?

Let’s go all the way and say three. There’s every chance we will Bo Levi Mitchell ($7,500), Matthew Shiltz ($7,500), and Taylor Powell ($5,000) in some order of appearance.

5)Will Montreal score a defensive touchdown this week against Hamilton?

Yes. The Als have scored defensive majors in each of their past three games and have scored nine of the team’s 41 touchdowns this season. You have to like their chances toward keeping the streak alive.

6)Will Montreal generate more or less than 64.5 rushing yards this week against Hamilton?

More. The Tiger-Cats allow 113.9 rushing yards per game and will likely get a healthy dose of Als RB Walter Fletcher ($5,200), who rushed for 88 yards on 13 carries in the Week 19 win over the Elks.

7)Will Toronto have more or less than 349.5 net yards of offence against Ottawa on Saturday?

More. The Argos average 379.5 net offensive yards per game and should be able to come close to their usual numbers even though they will likely use a balance of starters and backups.

8)Which Ottawa receiver will have the most receiving yards this week against Toronto? Justin Hardy? Jaelon Acklin? Bralon Addison? Other?

We will go with Acklin ($7,500), who should have a chance to end the season on a high note. The 2022 East Division All-Star comes into the season finale with 63 receptions for 846 yards and one touchdown.

9)Will Toronto’s Daniel Adeboboye rush for more or less than 99.5 yards this week against Ottawa?

No. Adeboboye ($2,500) had the first 100-yard game of his CFL career in Week 20 and should see his share of touches. However, the REDBLACKS have been tough against the run all season, allowing just 86.8 yards per game, second only to Toronto.

10)Which team will allow the fewest points in Week 21? Winnipeg? Montreal? Toronto? Other?

Let’s go with Toronto, who faces an Ottawa offence that has scored only 31 touchdowns this season while also averaging a league-low 315.1 yards per game.
