Head Coach Paul LaPolice has invited Chris Nugai, Joe Loth, Bob Cameron and Jermese Jones to help his staff during the club’s 2010 training camp. This year’s training camp begins on Sunday, June 6 at Canad Inns Stadium.
Nugai has been in the football coaching ranks since 1993 after playing quarterback in college for Worcester State. He was named Head Coach of Fitchburg State College in 1996 and in his two years at the helm, his offense set numerous school records. After stints as offensive coordinator at Coast Guard Academy and Tufts University, Nugai spent time coaching the running backs at Harvard University where he coached their all-time leading rusher and All-American, Clifton Dawson. Nugai won the Ivy League Championship with Harvard before returning to Columbia University where he coached the quarterbacks in 2002. Currently, Nugai coaches Columbia’s running backs and serves as Special Teams Coordinator. He has previously been a CFL guest coach twice with the Toronto Argonauts and once with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2005.
Loth is entering his eighth year as Head Coach of Otterbein College. Known for rebuilding struggling programs, Loth led Otterbein to their first playoff appearance in 2008 and to a 2nd place finish in 2009. Prior to his time at Otterbein, Loth was hired as Head Coach of Kean University in 2000 and led the team to their best record in eight years in 2002. A three-year starter at defensive back for Otterbein during his playing career, Loth earned second team ALL-OAC honors in his senior year and his 13 career interceptions record still stands. Loth spent time as Defensive Coordinator of Western Connecticut State University and Capital University before coaching the secondary at the University of Rhode Island. Last year, Loth helped the receivers as a guest coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Cameron is the CFL’s all-time leading punter with 134,301 yards in 23 seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A four-time CFL All-Star, Cameron won three Grey Cup championships and was named the Most Valuable Canadian in the 1988 Grey Cup game. Cameron also holds the record for most consecutive games played with 353. The former Hec Crighton Award winner played his college football at Acadia University as a quarterback. Cameron will be inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame this year.
Jones enjoyed a seven-year CFL career with the BC Lions (2002), the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2003-2006), the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2007) and the Calgary Stampeders (2008). With the Bombers, Jones was part of an offensive line that sprung Charles Roberts for three league rushing titles in four years and in 2005, Winnipeg’s offensive line gave up the third fewest sacks in the league. Jones won a Grey Cup with the Roughriders in 2007. After leaving the Canadian game, Jones became an offensive graduate assistant at Kansas State. The former Bomber played his college football at Virginia where he was a two-year starter.
