EDMONTON – The Edmonton Eskimos granted star slotback Derel Walker his release as he pursues a potential contract in the NFL. First reported by ESPN’s Jenna Laine, Walker has signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs have since confirmed the signing.

Walker was scheduled to become a free agent on February 14th.

In just two seasons Walker established himself as one of the most dominant pass-catchers in the league, posting back-to-bak all-star campaigns with 1,000-yards plus.  He was also an integral part of helping the Eskimos capture the 103rd Grey Cup presented by Shaw in his rookie season.

Last season, Walker and fellow receiver Adarius Bowman moved into number one all-time on the single-season receiving yards list for two teammates, passing Jeremaine Copeland and Ben Cahoon of the Montreal Alouettes.

Walker is the second Eskimo to make an early trip to free agency.  Earlier in the week, the Eskimos released linebacker Deon Lacey as he came to terms on a deal with the Miami Dolphins.
