Report: REDBLACKS lose Gavins for season

OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS will be without SAM linebacker/defensive back Jerrell Gavins for the rest of the season, according to multiple reports.

The news was first reported by the Ottawa Sun’s Tim Baines, who Tweeted on Thursday that Gavins will require knee surgery. The REDBLACKS’ veteran defender left practice this week on a cart and was later spotted on crutches.

Nick Taylor will fill in at linebacker when the REDBLACKS take on the Ticats on Friday night.

The injury marks the second disappointing blow this week for the defending Grey Cup Champions. Earlier, reports surfaced that receiver Brad Sinopoli will also miss the remainder of the campaign.

Ottawa, coming off a bye week, is currently enjoying a two-game winning streak while eyeing a third straight East Division title.
