Report: Argos, Carter expect to reach agreement within days

TORONTO — The latest speculation has emerged regarding Duron Carter with TSN’s Dave Naylor reporting that the Toronto Argonauts are expected to sign the former star receiver.

TSN’s Duane Forde reported that the Argos could be the front-runners to sign Carter a earlier in the week.

Carter, 27, was released two weeks ago in a shocking move by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The versatile receiver, who also spent time at defensive back and recorded two interception return touchdowns as a defender, was considered one of the CFL’s biggest stars.

The Argos seemed like the most likely choice if another team was going to take a chance on the former all-star with Montreal and BC both stating that they were unlikely to pursue a deal with Carter.

There are obvious connections with Carter and Argos GM Jim Popp from their days in Montreal.  Despite winning two straight the Argos are still in need of some help in their receiving corps and some would argue they have lacked a deep threat at the wideout spot since the departure of DeVier Posey.

Whether it is Toronto or elsewhere, Carter’s next club will be his third in six seasons in the CFL.
