Week 13 Fantasy Locks: Duke, DaVaris ready for heavy-lifting

The Canadian Press

TORONTO — With three of the CFL’s biggest receiving stars on the sideline this week, Fantasy players are looking elsewhere in Week 13.

Reggie Begelton ($2,610) and Bryant Mitchell ($4,216) are popular value picks this week, but Pat Steinberg and Hannah Nordman of the CFL Fantasy Podcast are looking bigger picture when it comes to cost and production this week.

For Pat and Hannah, Duke Williams ($8,158) and DaVaris Daniels ($6,250) are the receivers to own in the rematch of the Battle of Alberta.

“Duke Williams becomes that No. 1 option for Mike Reilly,” said Nordman. “With Derel Walker out he becomes too tempting. He put up 24 points last week against the same defence, I think he can do all that and more this week.”

The Eskimos will be without Walker for the next 6-8 weeks, the team has announced, while Jorden has been sidelined for the rest of the season. Jeff Krever likes Begelton as a value pick in place of Jorden in the Stamps’ passing game, but Steinberg is more comfortable with the proven commodity.

“No Kamar Jorden, no Eric Rogers,” said Steinberg. “Right now DaVaris Daniels is the No. 1 receiver for the Stampeders going up against the Eskimos. He had a big game against the Esks on Labour Day, and the price is right. At $6,250 for a No. 1 receiver, I don’t know if you’re getting much better than that.”

Going off the board with his lock of the week is Krever, who’s picking the high-cost Riders defence. That’s in contrast to Pat and Hannah, who, along with many other Fantasy players, often forego picking a defence on their rosters.

“I like the Riders’ defence this week,” said Krever. “That is a very talented group and they’ve taken another step. Matt Elam coming from the NFL, Nick Marshall, Loucheiz Purifoy — how that guy was on free agency a few weeks ago should be a crime. He’s a playmaker all over the field.

“Chris Jones has guys that can fly and against the vulnerable Winnipeg Blue Bombers I really like that unit, they will make it worth it for you.”
