Harris takes first team reps, likely to start vs. Lions

OTTAWA — It looks as though Ottawa REDBLACKS quarterback Trevor Harris has taken the next steps in his recovery as he aims to regain the starting role this weekend in BC.

Harris took first team reps when the REDBLACKS practiced Tuesday as they prepare to head West to take on the BC Lions in Vancouver on Saturday night.

“He had a good day today and fully anticipating him being back and ready to go,” REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell told reporters after Tuesday’s workout.

“Trevor does a lot of good things.  He is an accurate thrower and makes all the right throws so it is great to have him back.”

Harris has been out since Week 12 when he injured his shoulder in a loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.  The REDBLACKS have gone 1-2 in his absence.

Last weekend, Campbell told TSN 1200 that he would ‘be surprised if he (Harris) is not’ the starter on Saturday but wouldn’t make a confirmation.

Harris himself wouldn’t confirm whether or not he is locked in for Saturday’s contest but did reiterate that he is going to do everything in his power to do so.

“I will be lobbying pretty hard,” Harris said with a smile when he met with the media Tuesday. “We will see how it reacts to a heavy workload.

“You play football to play football, not to watch it.  So, the fact that i got to get out here and sling it around a little bit and be with my teammates and be in the huddle meant a lot to me.”

Harris’ return couldn’t come at a better time Ottawa who is still in striking distance of first place in the division with Toronto, however their chances are slim.  A loss this weekend, combined with an Argonauts win would clinch the division for Toronto.
