DailyRoto: Week 16 fantasy rankings

BCLions.com

Hamilton receiver Bralon Addison comes full circle on Friday when the Tiger-Cats visit the Blue Bombers. It was in Week 8 when the two teams previously met and the last when Addison ($9,439) let down fantasy users.

Addison had just 5.2 fantasy points in Hamilton’s 23-15 win. Since then, Addison has scored at least 11.6 FP in the past seven games, including last week’s 25.5 effort in the last-second win over Edmonton that clinched a postseason berth for the Ticats. He comes into Week 16 of TSN CFL Fantasy Football Presented by Leo Vegas having recorded three straight games of at least 100 receiving yards and gets a chance to erase memories of Week 8 against a Blue Bombers pass defence that ranks sixth in the league with 296.2 passing yards allowed per game.

Is it enough to lift Addison atop this week’s receiver rankings? Nope…but he’s close.

QUARTERBACKS

Matchup Rank (Position Rank) Player Value Opponent
1 (4) Mike Reilly, BC $9,902 MTL
2 (7) Chris Streveler, WPG $8,058 HAM
3 (6) Cody Fajardo, SSK $8,463 TOR
4 (9) Dane Evans, HAM $6,827 WPG
5 (13) Logan Kilgore, EDM $5,256 OTT
6 (10) James Franklin, TOR $5,831 SSK
7 (T-15) Matthew Shiltz, MTL $5,000 BC
8 (11) Dominique Davis, OTT $5,711 EDM
9 (14) Jonathon Jennings, OTT $5,197 EDM
10 (3) Trevor Harris, EDM $10,576 OTT

Injuries, new starters, timeshares and the suspension of Vernon Adams Jr. ($11,216) makes this the most muddled ranking of pivots this season. Mike Reilly ($9,902) has accounted for six majors in his last two games behind a revamped offensive line. The Als pass defence has improved since the start of the season but still allow 9.0 yards per pass and a league-high 10 touchdown passes on completions of 20-plus yards downfield. Chris Streveler ($8,058) has four straight games of at least one rushing major and averages 18.35 FP per game via rushing in the same span. A modest passing output against Hamilton makes him a viable fantasy option. Dane Evans ($6,827) averages 379.3 passing yards over the past three games and has thrown six of his 11 touchdowns during the same stretch. The Eskimos may wait until game time before making the call on Trevor Harris ($10,576) in his return to Ottawa. That’s too risky, so act as if Logan Kilgore ($5,256) gets his second straight start.

The return of James Franklin ($5,831) enhances the Argos’ ability to add to their league-low two rushing touchdowns, but can he generate enough of a passing threat against the Roughriders, who ranked second in pass defence? Alouettes fill-in Matthew Shiltz ($5,000) should be able to stretch the ball against the Lions, who have allowed 19 touchdown passes, but the winner will be running back William Stanback ($7,003), who won’t have to share carries with Adams. There’s little to be gained attempting to run with either Dominique Davis ($5,711) or Jonathon Jennings ($5,197).

RUNNING BACKS

Matchup Rank (Position Rank) Player Value Opponent
1 (1) Andrew Harris, WPG $10,396 HAM
2 (4) William Powell, SSK $8,435 TOR
3 (6) John White, BC $6,865 MTL
4 (5) William Stanback, MTL $7,003 BC
5 (2) James Wilder, Jr. TOR $9,335 SSK
6 (3) C.J. Gable, EDM $8,457 OTT
7 (7) Mossis Madu, OTT $6,221 EDM
8 (9) Chris Rainey, TOR $5,385 SSK
9 (17) Bennett Jackson, HAM $3,500 WPG
10 (16) Anthony Coombs, HAM $3,583 WPG
11 (19) Christion Jones, EDM $3,305 OTT
12 (18) Marcus Thigpen, SSK $3,334 WPG

14 (20) Stefan Logan, OTT $3,225 EDM
15 (T-24) Shaquille Murray-Lawrence, MTL $2,500 EDM
16 (T-24) Greg Morris, OTT $2,500 BC

Bombers star Andrew Harris ($10,396) accounted for 188 yards from scrimmage in his return to the lineup. He put up 14.4 FP via receiving in the previous meeting against the Tiger-Cats and has a good chance to duplicate the performance. William Powell ($8,435) is second only to Chris Streveler with 10 rushing touchdowns. Count on him adding to that total at the expense of Toronto’s run D that allows 5.6 yards per carry and 16 touchdowns. John White ($6,865) has accounted for five of BC’s runs of better than 20 yards. He’s a solid play since Montreal allows 5.5 yards per carry. At this point of the season, it feels like James Wilder Jr. ($9,335) is an overpriced receiver who gets occasional carries.

Both of C.J. Gable’s touchdowns came against the REDBLACKS, who have allowed a league-worst 22 rushing majors. Gable ($8,457) hasn’t scored since Week 9 meeting. Ottawa’s QB shuffle makes Mossis Madu’s ($6,221) status unstable. The return units of Saskatchewan and Toronto have combined to allow 19 big plays and seven touchdowns, making both Marcus Thigpen ($3,334) and Chris Rainey ($5,385) interesting RB2/Flex options.

Lions receiver Bryan Burnham ($10,243) produced 26.9 fantasy points in the first meeting against the Alouettes in Week 13. He’s coming in having scored at least 18.5 FP in four of his last six games. Brandon Banks ($12,305) is stepping up at the right time for fantasy users, averaging 20.8 fantasy points in his last three games. The fate of Edmonton’s duo of DaVaris Daniels ($7,915) and Greg Ellingson ($8,241) hinges on the health of Trevor Harris. The change at pivot could greatly impact Toronto’s pairing of Derel Walker ($9,127) and S.J. Green ($7,328), although Walker has averaged 21.75 FP per game in his past four. Cody Fajardo ($8463) passed for 430 yards and two scores in a Week 2 gem against Toronto. Riders pass-catchers Shaquelle Evans ($6,629) and Kyran Moore ($5,706) need a jump start since Fajardo has only four passing majors in his last seven games.

DeVier Posey ($7,345) and Eugene Lewis ($7,819) will thrive without Vernon Adams Jr. for one week. BC has allowed 19 touchdown passes this season and one has to wonder if Montreal will have more emphasis on throwing the ball downfield now that Matt Shiltz gets to fill the void Adams leaves behind this week. The REDBLACKS will hope Dominique Rhymes ($6,827) rebounds from his one-catch, 14-yard total in the loss to the Lions last week. The door could open for R.J. Harris ($5,098) or Brad Sinopoli ($6,047) to pick up the slack in Ottawa’s favour.

DEFENCES

Saskatchewan ($6,300) remains a threat to record sacks and get a break in the form of Toronto’s struggling offence. The Bombers ($6,300) held Ticats passer Dane Evans to 1.8 fantasy points in their first meeting this season. That could put a chill on any fantasy user considering a high-end stack of Evans and/or Banks and/or Addison. Ottawa has allowed 29 sacks and comes in with a -13 turnover ratio, offering two strong reasons to invest in the Eskimos defence ($3,950).
