Stamps sign trio of American receivers

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders have signed American receivers Dontario Drummond, Cameron Echols-Luper and Jaquarii Robinson, the team announced on Wednesday.

Drummond signed with the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys in 2022 and saw pre-season action for Dallas in both 2022 and 2023, making eight catches for 113 yards.

In college, Drummond played 34 games over three seasons at Mississippi and had 114 career catches for 1,633 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a senior for the Rebels, he established career highs with 76 catches for 1,028 yards and eight majors.

Drummond transferred to Ole Miss after producing 95 catches for 1,466 yards and 21 touchdowns in two seasons at East Mississippi Community College. He helped the Lions win the national junior college both years.

Echols-Luper has previously been on Canadian Football League practice rosters – with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2018 and with the BC Lions in 2019. In 2022, he signed with the United States Football League’s New Jersey Generals and in two seasons with the club he had 26 catches for 333 yards and two touchdowns, three carries for 24 yards and one score, 32 kickoff returns for 935 yards and one major and nine punt returns for 32 yards.

Echols-Luper played his senior college season at Western Kentucky and in 10 games for the Hilltoppers, he made 42 receptions for 473 yards and four touchdowns and also had 18 kickoff returns for 390 yards, two carries for six yards and one pass completion for 39 yards. In 2016, he played at Arkansas State and had 26 catches for 407 yards and one touchdown.

Echols-Luper started his collegiate career with two seasons at Texas Christian. In 23 games for the Horned Frogs, he had 13 catches for 93 yards. Echols-Luper also competed in track at TCU, including the 200-meter race and 4×100 relay.

Roberson signed with the BC Lions in 2023 and saw action in one pre-season game. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and has spent time on the practice rosters of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams.

After being released by the Rams, Roberson signed with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks.

Roberson played college football at Wake Forest. In 34 games for the Demons Deacons, he had 146 career catches for 2,158 yards and 17 touchdowns. He earned second-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference honours in his final season after achieving career highs with 71 catches for 1,078 yards. He was also second-team all-ACC in 2020 when he had 62 catches for 926 yards and eight touchdowns.
