Argos sailing up Nissan Titan Power Rankings

Johany Jutras/CFL.ca

TORONTO — A win for the Toronto Argonauts helped the team reclaim first place in the East and moved them up this week’s Power Rankings.

It came down to the last second – Winnipeg’s Justin Medlock missed his field goal attempt and Toronto’s kicker Lirim Hajrullahu booted it out of the end zone and out of bounds to seal his team’s one-point victory.

Now, the Boatmen hold fate in their own hands heading into the last two weeks of the regular season.

The Eskimos and Tiger-Cats also moved up in this week’s rankings with their Week 18 victories.

Where did the rest land? Find out in this week’s Nissan Titan Power Rankings:

Despite a loss in Week 18, the Calgary Stampeders are still on top of the Power Rankings this week. After the Argos defeated the Bombers, the Stamps clinched first place in the division and will host the Western Final. Looking for win number 14, Calgary heads to Edmonton to take on the Eskimos.

The Riders defence stole the show last week, helping to move Saskatchewan into the top two of the Power Rankings. Duron Carter, who was moved to corner last week, scored a pick-six in the victory while the rest of the defence did not allow a single Stampeders touchdown. This week, Saskatchewan hosts the Alouettes looking to catch Edmonton for third in the West.

Mike Reilly orchestrated an impressive comeback for the Eskimos last week, helping the team to score 22 unanswered points to defeat the Lions. The team will look to take the momentum of the overtime thriller into this week when they host the Calgary Stampeders.

With their win over the Blue Bombers last week, the Argos moved into first place in the East and remain in control of their own destiny. The team heads into a Week 19 bye before returning in Week 20 to take on the BC Lions in Vancouver.

This Week: 5 | Last Week: 2

Without Maurice Leggett, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles, and Darvin Adams, whose return is still unknown, the Bombers weren’t able to defeat the Argos last week in Toronto. Although, Weston Dressler stepped up in his return to the field and will hope his chemistry with Matt Nichols continues this week when the Bombers host the Lions.

This Week: 6 | Last Week: 5

Coming off a Week 18 bye, the REDBLACKS have just one game left in the regular season. They’ll have to roll without star receiver Brad Sinopoli this week as he is dealing with a shoulder injury. Can the REDBLACKS get a win over the Ticats and give the Argonauts a run for their money for first in the East?

This Week: 7 | Last Week: 8

Jeremiah Masoli and his offence came in hot last week against the Alouettes, defeating the team 43-16. Brandon Banks was the star of the show, however, going back to his former role of returning kicks. He collected over 200 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns – one on offence and one on a punt return.

This Week: 8 | Last Week: 7

The Lions were eliminated from playoff contention last week – the first time BC has not made the playoffs since 1996 – thanks to a Saskatchewan victory over Calgary. The team will travel to Winnipeg this week as they take on the Blue Bombers.

This Week: 9 | Last Week: 9

Coming off a loss at home to the Tiger-Cats, the Alouettes now head to Saskatchewan for a visit with the Roughriders. Last week Matt Shiltz took over the Alouettes offence from Darian Durant but will he see the field again this week against the Riders or does the team go back to the veteran pivot?
